During a reporting day for a column on the "hidden" Battle of Nashville, I found this interesting juxtaposition. The sign in the background is in front of the
Unitarian Universalist Church on Woodmont Road. (See Google Street View image below.) The Confederates' position here was overrun on Dec. 15, 1864, and the Federals under George Thomas completed the rout the next day. Black troops saw significant action during the battle at Granbury's Lunette (Dec.15) and Peach Orchard Hill (Dec. 16).
