In early April 1864, 25th Michigan assistant surgeon John N. Gregg wrote this note regarding the circumstances of Corporal Morgan Wallace's death at the Battle of Tebbs Bend (Ky.). Wallace was buried in the national cemetery in Lebanon, Ky,

April 8, 1864

Mossy Creek, Tennessee

This is to certify that on the 4th day of July 1863 at Tebbs Bend Green River Kentucky while in the discharge of his duties on the field of battle Morgan Wallace a corporal of Co. D 25th Mich. Vol. Inft. received a gunshot wound of the upper part of the thigh severing the femoral artery. Hemmorrhage ensued from which he died in 30 minutes.
