Civil War soldier lives on...
The rangers at Antietam are using a photograph I own to help tell the story of the Sept. 17, 1862, Civil War battle to visitors. As Civil War buff Tom Shay notes here (third photo down), rangers last month used a blow-up of 15th Massachusetts soldier Justus Wellington on a tour of the West Woods, where many Union troops were cut to pieces. The blow-up of Collins sits next to his name on the monument to the 15th Massachusetts. The original ambrotype of Wellington is in my collection. Two years ago, I allowed Antietam ranger Keith Snyder to copy my photo of Wellington to put in their archives in Sharpsburg. Pretty cool.
