It reminded me of a misty Fall morning a few years ago, when I travelled to Helena Confederate Cemetery to find the resting places of Genls. Patrick Cleburne and Thomas Hindman. I arrived at the cemetery about 7 am, and there was not a soul around. I spent about an hour wandering around, tracing and retracing my steps, till I finally found the burial sites, high on the side of a hill, in the very back of the cemetery. In addition to Gen. Cleburne, a number of soldiers who perished at the battle of Helena also rest there. Several of the stones are in disarray.Stan Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15144859094492125649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31912334.post-46634274094329642652020-06-09T10:19:07.813-04:002020-06-09T10:19:07.813-04:00This is great. My daughter and I drove to that same cemetery this Memorial Day weekend to decorate the grave of 65th NY Surgeon John W. Gray with a flag, in an effort to give tribute to soldiers of the 65th NY, whose regimental history I wrote (No Flinching From Fire). The Avon rural cemetery is beautiful, a nice last resting place. Wish I saw this post a few weeks ago--we would have searched for Cutler's grave as well. The story of my own trip is told on my blog:
https://65thnyvolunteerinfantry.home.blog/

--Chris BarryAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01067096704132108278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31912334.post-24869901380227861882020-01-29T21:54:17.118-05:002020-01-29T21:54:17.118-05:00Good storyGood storybryan k trenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01270994291294739866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31912334.post-4219455417505391242019-11-28T11:54:23.070-05:002019-11-28T11:54:23.070-05:00Wondering if this brave soldier is related to my h...Wondering if this brave soldier is related to my husband's Cutler line.
